(Sandra is packing her dog things in bubble wrap and putting them in a box on the counter. There are numerous other boxes stacked in the back of the kitchen. The kitchen cupboards are empty.)

MR. BENNET: What are you wearing?

CLAIRE: My uniform. I have a pep rally today.

(Sandra and Lyle are both packing. Claire continues putting her bag together.)

MR. BENNET: Well, maybe I didn't make myself clear. We're leaving Costa Verde today.

CLAIRE: You made yourself plenty clear. I'm not leaving.

MR. BENNET: Go change out of that outfit or I will--

CLAIRE: Or you'll what? Abduct me? Experiment on me? Erase my memory? That's what you did, isn't it, Dad? And then you inject them with some sort of --

MR. BENNET: You are talking about things you don't understand.

CLAIRE: Actually, I do understand. You abducted West.

MR. BENNET: What?

CLAIRE: When he was, like, twelve. When he saw you yesterday, I have never seen anyone so terrified.

LYLE: What are you talking about, Claire? Dad does not abduct people.

CLAIRE: Dad is a bad guy, Lyle. He's a liar. Don't listen to a word he says.

SANDRA: Claire!

CLAIRE: Would you stop defending him? That's all you do. I mean, look at us! Moving, lying, changing our names.

MR. BENNET: All I want is for you to have a safe and normal life.

CLAIRE: This isn't about me. This is all about you and the things you've done.

MR. BENNET: If you and your boyfriend hadn't showboated, none of- -

CLAIRE: Stop using that as an excuse. No matter what I do, this is never gonna end, is it, Dad? We'll always be running.

(Claire turns and heads for the door.)

MR. BENNET: Do not walk out of that door!

(She turns and looks at him.)

CLAIRE: What are you gonna do ... Tie me up?

MR. BENNET: If I have to.

(He grabs the tape off the table and heads for her.)

SANDRA: Enough! Noah, put down the tape. Claire, go to school, say good-bye to your friends, then come right home. We are leaving tonight. You got it?

CLAIRE: I hate you.

(The Buddhist monks chant at Kaito Nakamura’s funeral. There are three monks standing in front of the Nakamura family headstone.)

CAPTION:
TOKYO, JAPAN

(Hiro sits next to his sister. Ando sits with them.)

MONK 1: (subtitled) It is tradition that the eldest son speak ... in honor of the deceased.

(The monk bows. Hiro stands up and stands behind the podium at the front of the gathering.)

(Hiro looks at everyone around him. He is quiet. Then, he walks away.)

[TOP OF THE HILL]

(Hiro stands at the top of the hill. Ando goes to him.)

ANDO: (subtitled) Hiro, are you okay?

HIRO: (subtitled) No. I came back too late. Now he’s dead. We don’t even know who killed him! It’s all my fault.

ANDO: (subtitled) No it’s not, Hiro. Now go back up there. Honor your father.

HIRO: (subtitled) No. To eulogize him is to admit he is gone. And I’m not ready to let him go.

(Hiro turns and looks at Ando.)

HIRO: (subtitled) I must go back in time.

ANDO: (subtitled) Hiro, please ...

(Hiro closes his eyes and concentrates --

ANDO: Hiro –

NEW YORK CITY

(He watches as Kaito talks with Angela. He moves behind the pigeon coop.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: I do not take death threats idly.

ANGELA: So you think one of us sent these?

(Angela gives Kaito her photo with the SYMBOL on it in red. He compares it with his photo.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: Yes, for the pain we caused. The people we have killed. There is no end to our suffering.

[INT. (NEW YORK) MOHINDER’S APARTMENT – MORNING -- PRESENT]

CLOSE UP: FOUNDER’S (GROUP OF TWELVE) PHOTO

(Matt is looking at the photo of the founding members of the Company. He has post-it notes identifying the various members:
MR. PETRELLI (deceased)
ANGELA PETRELLI
KAITO NAKAMURA (deceased)
ROBERT BISHOP (Head of Primatech Paper Co.
??? )

(Matt sighs and rubs his temple. Molly rubs her eyes and walks into the room.)

MOLLY: Good morning.

CAPTION:
BROOKLYN, NY

MATT: Morning! How'd you sleep?

MOLLY: On my pillow.

MATT: No nightmares, no nightmare man?

(Molly sits at the table.)

MOLLY: No.

MATT: Good.

(Matt puts a bowl down and fills it with BITS ‘N PIECES cereal.)

MOLLY: What were you looking at?

(Molly gets up and heads over to the desk where Matt was sitting.)

MATT: That's a puzzle. People in that photo fit together somehow. Some of 'em got hurt, and I'm trying to find the rest so that no one else has to.

MOLLY: I can find them for you.

MATT: No. No, you won't. I made that mistake once. I'm never gonna ask you to do that again. Sit down, eat breakfast. I want you to be a normal little girl.

MOLLY: I'm not normal. I can find people.

MATT: All right, you wanna help? Come here.

(He sets Molly on his lap.)

MATT: If you wanna help, help me put the nightmare man behind us, so we can get back to normal. Okay? And just be a little girl. Go to school, have fun. And I'll be ... an underpaid cop.

(She smiles.)

MAT: Deal?

(She hugs him.)

MOLLY: But why can't we?

(He rubs her back.)

MATT: (v.o., thinking) Just do it, okay? For me?

(Molly hears him.)

MOLLY: Okay, I'll do it for you. Back to normal.

(She starts to leave the room. Matt shakes his head. Did he just do that?)

MATT: (v.o., thinking) Come back and finish your cereal.

(Molly turns around, sits down and starts eating her cereal. Matt watches her.)

CUT TO:

[EXT. (COSTA VERDE) HOTEL POOLSIDE – DAY]

CAPTION:
COSTA VERDE, CA

(Mohinder steps into frame. He looks around – sunny skies, warm weather and Bob ... standing at the poolside putting his phone away.)

(Mohinder is carrying his travel bags.)

BOB: Welcome to Costa Verde.

MOHINDER: How we gonna do this?

BOB: Swiftly. We grab Claire, we take out her father. We get out.

MOHINDER: When you say "take out," you mean kill?

BOB: It is a euphemism.

MOHINDER: Word choice aside, I never agreed to take out anybody.

BOB: You were loyal to Bennet. I get that. The two of you were going to take down the Company. But you made the right choice in telling me the truth.

MOHINDER: I'm not choosing sides. This is about Claire's blood curing Niki. I'm just trying to do the right thing for everyone.

BOB: That's what I like about you, Dr. Suresh. Your moral compass always faces true north. Which is why you're going to get a new partner. One who can execute. One whose compass faces north-northwest.

(They approach Elle, who is sunbathing.)

BOB: I hope you're using sunscreen.

ELLE: (groans) Ugh. Overprotective, much?

BOB: Dr. Suresh, I would like you to meet my daughter, Elle.

MOHINDER: Your daughter? She's the executioner?

(Bob nods.)

ELLE: What's your super power ... punching bag?

BOB: (to Elle) Have you been working on your sharpshooting? I don't want you to get too close to Bennet.

ELLE: Hey, fight club ... check this out.

(With her index finger extended like a gun, Elle points and "shoots" an electrical bolt at the drink on the table nearby. The drink explodes and burns.)

(Elle blows on her smoking fingertip.)

FADE IN:

[EXT. (COSTA VERDE) FIELD -- DAY]

(Claire picks up a stone and places it on the ground next to the others. She sighs. SWOOSH. And West is there.)

WEST: (o.s.) What's your deal?

(Claire turns. West is standing behind her.)

CLAIRE: I figured this was your flight path to school.

WEST: You don't have to pretend anymore, Claire. The jig is kinda up, spy girl.

CLAIRE: I'm not pretending. And I'm not a spy, I swear. I'm just ... I'm just a cheerleader.

WEST: So this is all a big coincidence? That your dad just happens to be the guy who abducted me? (She nods.) Then why didn't you just tell me?

CLAIRE: I was selfish. You liked me. You were like me. And I thought ... that if I told you ... it would just mess everything up. And I guess it did.

(West turns to leave.)

CLAIRE: My family's leaving town.

WEST: When?

CLAIRE: Tonight. But I'm not going with them. I'm staying here because of you.

WEST: I wanna believe you. But I don't. I need to go figure things out.

(West flies away.)

(TOP VIEW DOWN – Shows Claire spelled a large "SORRY" out of white rocks on the ground.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) POLICE DEPARTMENT – BULLPEN -- DAY]

(Matt is on the phone.)

MATT: (to phone) Yes, I've been on hold waiting for a special agent -- No, some of that interdepartmental cooperation I've been hearing so much about on the news.

(He chuckles.)

MATT: (to phone) Yes, I'll hold.

(Detective Fuller walks up and disconnects the phone. Matt gets a dial tone, turns and sees Detective Fuller there.)

MATT: What are you doing? I was on hold with the FBI.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Well, I want you to tell me why you're on hold with the FBI.

(Matt slams the phone down.)

MATT: Because I'm trying to get some information on the Kaito Nakamura case.

DETECTIVE FULLER: The Kaito Nakamura case is closed. Angela Petrelli confessed, partner.

MATT: Yeah, but she didn't do it. There's something bigger going on here. I don't know what it is, but these guys are involved in some kind of ... uh ... organization, like from back in the '70s.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Like a disco?

MATT: No ... No. Like a research facility. I was there yesterday. (picks up the photo) All these guys -- Nakamura, Linderman, Arthur Petrelli, my dad, and this Adam Monroe guy.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Your dad?

MATT: Yeah.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Let it go. You got real work to do.

MATT: This is real work! And it's important. Lives could be at stake.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Your job could be at stake if you keep this up, Parkman. Now, I need you back on the planet Earth. You got me?

(Matt thinks about it and makes a decision.)

MATT: No.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Excuse me, Detective?

MATT: (v.o., thinking) Give me 24 hours. Let me talk to Angela Petrelli again.

DETECTIVE FULLER: Tell you what. You got 24 hours. Talk to Angela Petrelli again. Then you're done.

MATT: Thank you. Great idea.

(Detective Fuller nods and leaves.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (COSTA VERDE) BENNET RESIDENCE -- DAY]

(Mr. Bennet is going through some files from a PRIMATECH PAPER box.)

MR. BENNET: Is this him?

(He shows a photo of West to Sandra. A younger West.)

SANDRA: He looks a lot younger there.

MR. BENNET: Well, apparently, he can fly.

SANDRA: Did you really do what Claire said? Abduct him when he was just a boy?

MR. BENNET: I thought we were doing good. Saving the world.

SANDRA: Honestly, I don't know why I'm not getting in the car with the kids and leaving you.

MR. BENNET: Come here. I want to show you something.

(He sits her down at the desk in front of the computer.)

MR. BENNET: Remember that painting I showed you? The Death of Kaito Nakamura.

(He puts the first painting up on the monitor.)

SANDRA: Kind of hard to forget a story about a man who can paint the future.

MR. BENNET: Well, that was one of eight. I found the other seven yesterday.

(He changes to the second painting: of Claire bleeding on the steps.)

SANDRA: That's Claire, isn't it?

(He shows her the painting of his own death.)

SANDRA: Is that ...

MR. BENNET: Claire's right. It's all about me.

(He shows her the next painting of Mohinder with the smoking gun.)

SANDRA: And this man with the gun, is he gonna shoot you?

MR. BENNET: Believe me, I've considered it. But Suresh is one of the good guys.

SANDRA: And you think West has something to do with it?

MR. BENNET: I don't know, but West is the reason why Claire won't leave town. And I need to talk to him. It's all falling apart.

(He holds her hand tightly.)

MR. BENNET: I really need you now.

(Sandra pulls her hand out of his grip. She turns to look at him.)

SANDRA: I'm gonna ... take Lyle to school.

(Sandra stands up and leaves.)

CUT TO:

[EXT. HOTEL -- DAY]

(Mohinder’s phone rings. He answers it.)

MOHINDER: (to phone) Hello.

MR. BENNET: (from phone) Is Molly well enough to use her ability?

INTERCUT WITH:

[INT. BENNET RESIDENCE]

(Mr. Bennet is looking at the monitor with the painting of Mohinder firing the gun.)

MOHINDER: (from phone) Why?

MR. BENNET: (to phone) I need to track down a boy, and I don't have time to run all over Costa Verde. His name is West Rosen.

MOHINDER: (to phone) Are you okay? You sound--

MR. BENNET: (to phone) (interrupts) Can you do it or not?

MOHINDER: (to phone) Yes, of course.

MR. BENNET: (to phone) Mohinder ...

MOHINDER: (from phone) Yeah?

MR. BENNET: (to phone) Just ... thank you.

(Mohinder hangs up. He walks into the room where Bob and Elle are.)

MOHINDER: That was Bennet.

(Elle stands up and gives Mohinder his holster. She picks up her own gun.)

BOB: Does he know we're here?

MOHINDER: No. He just wanted some information—a location of a boy.

(Elle shoves the cartridge in her gun.)

MOHINDER: M-maybe we can use this to our advantage.

BOB: How so?

MOHINDER: We feed him a false location. We isolate him. We get him away from Claire. We don't have to kill him.

(Elle is all over Mohinder as he puts his holster on.)

ELLE: Do you know what happens when you change your plans mid-stream?

MOHINDER: No.

ELLE: Neither do I. Because we don't do it.

MOHINDER: Let me put it this way. We do it my way, or I blow the whistle right now. Tell Bennet everything.

BOB: Bennet is dangerous. You saw what he did to his mentor in the Ukraine.

ELLE: Don't you think if push came to shove, he'd do the same to you?

MOHINDER: No. I don't.

ELLE: (to Bob) He's adorable. Can I keep him?

BOB: Okay ... We do it the doctor's way.

(Elle turns and picks up Mohinder’s gun and offers it to him. Mohinder takes it and holsters it. He turns and looks in at himself in the mirror.)

WHITE FLASH TO:

[EXT. (NEW YORK) DEVEAUX BUILDING – ROOFTOP (ONE WEEK AGO)]

(Hiro watches his father talk with Angela Petrelli.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: I sought redemption by helping Hiro fulfill his destiny to save the world. How did you help your son?

(Angela slaps him. She turns to leave.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: I'm leaving for Japan tonight. I suggest you disappear as well.

(Angela leaves.)

(Hiro steps out.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Father!

(Kaito turns around and sees Hiro.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) Hiro! You’ve returned! (Hiro bows to him.) Where have you been, Hiro?

HIRO: (subtitled) Japan. 1671.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) The time of Takezo Kensei ... You must tell me everything.

HIRO: (subtitled) Later. Right now, we must leave. You are going to die! Here! Tonight!

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) How do you know this?

HIRO: (subtitled) I’ve just come from your funeral.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) My funeral? (Hiro nods.) This is my fate then.

HIRO: (subtitled) It doesn’t have to be ...

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) We have the power of gods. That does not mean we can play God.

HIRO: (subtitled) No. You are being stubborn.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) And you are letting your emotions cloud your judgement.

HIRO: (subtitled) You felt this way once. I was young, but I remember. In fact ... I will show you.

(Hiro steps forward, puts his hand on his father’s shoulder and concentrates.)

(They VANISH!)

WHITE FLASH TO:

[INT. (COSTA VERDE) BENNET RESIDENCE – FOYER – DAY]

(Mr. Bennet is holding his jacket. He turns and looks at his reflection in the foyer mirror. He puts his jacket on. Sandra comes down the stairs and sees that he’s going out. Mr. Bennet picks up the folder and his keys.)

SANDRA: Where are you going?

MR. BENNET: I can't just wait around.

[EXT. BENNET RESIDENCE – FRONT WALK – DAY]

(He leaves the house.)

MR. BENNET: He goes to school with Claire. And I know where that is.

(Sandra closes the front door.)

SWOOSH!

(West swoops down and grabs Mr. Bennet, carrying him away.)

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[EXT. (COSTA VERDE) SKY – DAY]

(West is carrying Mr. Bennet high up in the sky.)

WEST: Remember me? Then you know I don't have super strength. I can't hold on forever.

MR. BENNET: What do you want?

WEST: Answers!

MR. BENNET: We took you to study your abilities!

WEST: I don't care about any of that! Claire! Is she working with you? Or for you? Did she ever really care about me?

MR. BENNET: Claire never even mentioned you existed! You hear me? She lied to me! So I'm guessing you're pretty important to her.

(West brings them both down. They land hard.)

MR. BENNET: Aah!
WEST: Agh!

(Mr. Bennet looks at West, who is slowly getting to his feet. He goes over, grabs West’s wrists behind his back and pushes him down to the grass.)

MR. BENNET: You listen to me very carefully. I am taking Claire. We are leaving town. And you are gonna convince her that's the right thing to do.

(Mr. Bennet’s phone rings. He answers it.)

MR. BENNET: (to phone) Hello.

INTERCUT WITH:

[INT. CAR (PARKED) – DAY]

(Mohinder is on the phone.)

MOHINDER: (to phone) I just spoke to Molly. She's located West. He's in Costa Verde. Corner of Verbena and Palm.

(Mohinder looks out his window. He’s on the corner of Verbena and Palm.)

MR. BENNET: (to phone) Right now?

(Mr. Bennet looks at the nearest street sign: Corner of OCEAN AVE and 4TH ST.)

MR. BENNET: (to phone) Are you sure?

MOHINDER: (from phone) Molly's ability has pinpoint accuracy. But I can't guarantee that he'll be there forever. You should get there quickly.

MR. BENNET: (to phone) Okay. I'll head right over.

(Mr. Bennet hangs up and gets off of West.)

(Mohinder looks at his phone. Elle is sitting in the car with him.)

(Mr. Bennet looks around and thinks.)

WEST: What's going on?

(Mr. Bennet looks at West.)

MR. BENNET: Claire's in danger. I need your help.

CUT TO:

[EXT. COSTA VERDE HIGH SCHOOL – FOOTBALL FIELD -- DAY]

(Claire is at cheerleader practice.)

COACH RANDOLPH: (shouts) Claire Butler! Bring it on in!

(Claire runs over to her.)

COACH RANDOLPH: Hey, we missed you this morning. Is everything okay?

CLAIRE: Yeah, everything's great.

COACH RANDOLPH: Good. Come here. This is Mr. Bishop from the state Board of Education. He needs to talk to you about the Debbie incident.

REVEAL: BOB

BOB: Please ... call me Bob.

CLAIRE: Am I in trouble?

BOB: No, no, no. Just wanna ask you a couple questions. May we walk?

CLAIRE: Yeah, sure.

(They walk and talk.)

BOB: We take underage drinking very seriously.

CLAIRE: Of course.

BOB: You haven't seen any other incidents of drinking, hazing?

CLAIRE: No, sir, none.

BOB: You wouldn't lie to me, would you?

CLAIRE: No, sir.

BOB: Because an incident like this can ruin a girl's life. You wouldn't wanna do that, would you, Miss Bennet?

(Claire stops.)

CLAIRE: What did you just call me?

(Bob looks at Claire. He knows who she is.)

(Claire runs. Bob watches her go.)

CUT TO:

[INT. CAR (PARKED) -- DAY]

(Elle slurps the end of her straw, her feet up on the dashboard as she waits with Mohinder. She looks at Mohinder.)

MOHINDER: Have you killed many people?

ELLE: How is that any of your business?

MOHINDER: I guess it's not.

(She slurps from her drink.)

MOHINDER: Bennet. Let me talk to him first. Alone.

ELLE: You sure?

MOHINDER: I am. He trusts me.

(Elle goes back to slurping her drink.)

CUT TO:

[EXT. CORNER OF VERBENA & PALM]

(Mr. Bennet pulls up to the corner.)

[INT. BENNET’S CAR (PARKED) – CONTINUOUS]

(The door opens and Mohinder slips into the back seat. Mr. Bennet watches him through the rearview mirror.)

MR. BENNET: What are you doing here?

MOHINDER: I'm sorry I lied to you. I only have a second. You have to listen to me.

MR. BENNET: Are they forcing you to do this? Do they have Molly?

MOHINDER: Nobody is forcing me to do anything. I'm here to ask you to give us Claire. (Mr. Bennet turns and looks directly at Mohinder.) We need her blood.

MR. BENNET: You've gone native. Are you kidding me?

MOHINDER: She'll be returned to you safe, unharmed. You have my word.

MR. BENNET: No offense, Mohinder, but your word isn't what it used to be.

MOHINDER: Claire is very important to the work we're doing. She can save lives.

MR. BENNET: "The work we're doing." You sound like me ten years ago. This is what they do: They indoctrinate you. I couldn't have been more clear about this when you agreed to go in.

MOHINDER: They're not who you think they are.

MR. BENNET: They are not getting Claire.

MOHINDER: I have to do what I think is right.

(Mohinder takes out the gun. Mr. Bennet doesn’t appear all that surprised.)

MOHINDER: Start driving.

(Mohinder cocks the gun.)

MOHINDER: Please.

CUT TO:

[INT. BENNET RESIDENCE -- DAY]

CLAIRE: Dad!

(Claire runs into the house. There’s no answer.)

CLAIRE: (shouts) Mom?! Lyle!

(She runs into the office and finds the painting of her dad’s death on the laptop.)

(A hand reaches out and touches her shoulder, startling her.)

CLAIRE: Aah!

(It’s Sandra with Mr. Muggles.)

SANDRA: Claire?

CLAIRE: Mom! This guy showed up at my school. He knew our real name.

SANDRA: What?

CLAIRE: Dad was right. I messed up, and they found us. We gotta go.

SANDRA: Go where?

(Claire looks at the laptop again.)

CLAIRE: What is this?

SANDRA: That's why your father's been acting so strangely -- He thinks that's gonna happen.

BOB: (o.s.) Isaac Mendez ...

(They turn around and find Bob in the house with a gun on them.)

BOB: ... he was a very talented artist, and incredibly accurate. Good to see you again, Sandra.

CLAIRE: You know him?

SANDRA: Yeah. He was the regional sales manager of Primatech Paper.

CUT TO:

[EXT. ROAD NEAR HIGH SCHOOL -- DAY]

(Mr. Bennet’s car is parked. He and Mohinder get out. Mohinder still has the gun on him.)

MR. BENNET: So who's your partner?

MOHINDER: Excuse me?

MR. BENNET: Company policy. One of them, one of us. Who's yours?

(He looks around. Elle steps out from behind the parked van.)

MR. BENNET: Elle, huh?

MOHINDER: You know her?

MR. BENNET: Oh, yeah.

ELLE: Hey, you.

(As she approaches them, she has a ball of electricity crackling in the palm of her hand.)

(Suddenly, Mohinder looks uncertain.)

(Mr. Bennet smiles. Elle stops. She turns around, but it’s too late. West swoops in and knocks her off her feet. They hit the top of the parked car. It knocks Elle out cold.)

(Mohinder is distracted. He turns around. Bennet knocks his arm away.)

(Mohinder swings back around, the gun pointed right at Bennet.)

INSERT: ISAAC’S PAINTING OF MOHINDER WITH THE SMOKING GUN.

(Mr. Bennet grabs Mohinder’s wrist. Mohinder shoots; the bullet misses Bennet.)

(Bennet grabs the gun and twists Mohinder’s arm down. Mohinder punches Bennet in the face. Bennet punches Mohinder in the nose. Mohinder lets go of the gun and covers his nose.)

(Bennet holds the gun on Mohinder.)

MR. BENNET: (angry) You lie to me, betray me. You come after my daughter.

(He cocks the gun.)

MR. BENNET: How did you think it was gonna end?

WEST: Mr. Butler ... what are you doing?

(West watches them. Mr. Bennet uncocks the gun. Mohinder closes his eyes with relief.)

MR. BENNET: No one's taking my little girl.

(Bennet kicks Mohinder, knocking him against the car. Mohinder is out for the moment.)

(Bennet turns and heads for Elle.)

CUT TO:

[INT. BENNET RESIDENCE -- DAY]

(Mr. Bennet bursts into the house.)

MR. BENNET: Sandra! Claire!

(He turns and finds Sandra tied to a chair with her mouth taped. She stomps her bound feet on the floor. Bennet rushes over to untie her.)

SANDRA: Uhh! He took Claire. Your old boss Bob. What the hell is going on?

MR. BENNET: It's okay. We're gonna get her back.

(Mr. Bennet goes to get a knife out of the kitchen.)

SANDRA: How, Noah?

MR. BENNET: I've got collateral.

SANDRA: What do you mean, collateral?

(West walks in. He’s carrying Elle over his shoulders.)

WEST: Hi, Mrs. Butler. (She turns.) It's good to ... uh ... see you again.

(West takes Elle into the next room.)

MR. BENNET: (to Sandra) Did you pack Mr. Muggles' doggy bath?

TIME CUT TO:

[INT. BENNET RESIDENCE – KITCHEN -- DAY]

(Elle sits on a chair, her wrists chained to the arm rests and her bound feet inside the doggy bath pan filled with water. She’s still unconscious.)

(Mr. Bennet uses the faucet spray and douses her with water. She wakes up and glares at Mr. Bennet.)

MR. BENNET: I need to speak to your father.

ELLE: (scoffs) What do you think -- this is my first day?

(She tries to zap him, but she’s wet and instead, she zaps herself.)

ELLE: (screams) Aah!

(Sandra and West watch from the side.)

MR. BENNET: Stings like a bitch, doesn't it?

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. BENNET RESIDENCE – KITCHEN -- DAY]

(Mr. Bennet talks with Elle.)

MR. BENNET: I know all about your ability, Elle.

ELLE: You don't know anything about me.

MR. BENNET: I was there. When your father first brought you in. You were a normal girl. Unicorns and rainbows. And then they started the testing. The human brain isn't built to take that much electricity. You poor girl.

ELLE: My father would never let that happen.

MR. BENNET: Your father was leading the charge.

ELLE: I don't remember any of that.

MR. BENNET: No memories, huh? Kind of like someone took them away? Why do you think I never let the Company anywhere near Claire? I didn't want her to become you. Now I need to talk to your father to arrange a trade: Claire for you.

ELLE: What if he doesn't wanna make a deal?

MR. BENNET: You'd be surprised what a father would do for his daughter.

CUT TO:

[INT. HOTEL ROOM – DAY]

(Bob has Claire tied to a chair. His phone rings.)

BOB: (to phone) Elle, where are you?

INTERCUT WITH:

MR. BENNET: (filtered) You touch my daughter and I'll kill yours. And then I'll kill you.

[INT. BENNET RESIDENCE – KITCHEN -- DAY]

BOB: (filtered) Noah?

MR. BENNET: (to phone) We'll be at the Imperial Beach parking lot in two hours.

(The line disconnects.)

(Bob pulls the phone away and turns to Claire.)

BOB: Well, looks like you and I are going to the beach.

CLAIRE: I'll do whatever you want, okay? Just promise me you'll leave my dad alone.

BOB: I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately, He's got my daughter.

(Bob puts on some gloves.)

CLAIRE: Let me talk to him. He'll listen to me.

BOB: He's not big on the listening. And once he sets his mind, it's stuck. Which is why we gave you to him in the first place. We thought he would be loyal to the end. Turns out we were right. It's too bad, really. You'd be an excellent addition to the team, Claire. You, your blood. You can help a lot of people.

CLAIRE: Good. Take my blood. Take as much as you want, but leave my dad alone. No one has to die.

(He uses a syringe and takes some of Claire’s blood.)

CUT TO:

[EXT. (JAPAN) AOYAMA CEMETERY – DAY (17 YEARS AGO)]

(Hiro and Kaito appear at the top of the hill in the back of a funeral in progress. The monks chant off-screen.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) Where are we?

HIRO: (subtitled) Aoyama Cemetery.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) When are we?

HIRO: (subtitled) It’s 17 years ago.

CLOSE ON – A photo of Hiro’s mother.

HIRO: (subtitled) Mother has just passed away.

(A younger Kaito Nakamura bows.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) Why have you done this?

HIRO: (subtitled) You need to understand my pain. The reason I need to save you. Don’t you remember your heartache when she died?

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) It was the saddest day of my life.

(He turns and watches his younger self paint the name on the headstone.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) But it doesn’t change anything. Did you really think this was going to work?

HIRO: (subtitled) You cannot die.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) You foolish boy. Take me back now.

HIRO: (subtitled) No!

(Hiro turns and runs away. He bumps into his younger self.

HIRO: (subtitled) Sorry ...

(Young Hiro brandishes a fake sword.

HIRO: (subtitled) Oh my God. You are ...

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) I am Takezo Kensei.

(Hiro stops and looks at himself. Kaito watches them from the side.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Yes.

(They both push their glasses up.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Yes. You are.

(Young Hiro turns and looks back at the funeral in progress.)

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) My mother died.

HIRO: (subtitled) I know. I remember.

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) Why does my father paint the grave?

HIRO: (subtitled) It is tradition. The names of husband and wife are carved into stone. Your father paints his own name red as a promise ... to join your mother. It will stay that way until he does.

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) My father’s going to die, too?

HIRO: (subtitled) Not for a long time.

(Young Hiro raises his sword at Hiro.)

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) No! I must stop it. I am a hero!

(Hiro looks at his dad.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Some things even Takezo Kensei cannot change.

(Young Hiro puts his sword down.)

HIRO: (subtitled) We cannot play God.

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) But I must honor him ...

HIRO: (subtitled) Listen to him. Learn from his lessons. Strength ... Responsibility ... and justice.

YOUNG HIRO: (subtitled) Justice? How?

YOUNG KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) (o.s.) Hiro.

(Both Hiro and Young Hiro turn.)

YOUNG KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) Come here!

(Young Hiro picks up his sheath and covers his sword. He smiles at Hiro, then he runs to join his father and sister.)

(Hiro watches his younger self.)

(He goes back to his father.)

HIRO: (subtitled) You were right, father. I was being childish. I’m sorry.

(Hiro bows to him.)

HIRO: (subtitled) I’ll take you back.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) Let us pay our respects first.

(Hiro smiles. They both turn toward the grave and with their hands together in prayer, they bow for a moment of silence.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (COSTA VERDE) BENNET RESIDENCE – LIVING ROOM – DAY]

(West and Sandra are sitting on the sofa. Mr. Bennet walks into the room. West gets to his feet.)

MR. BENNET: Thanks for your help, West. Now go on home to your family.

WEST: No way! I'm going with you.

MR. BENNET: No, it's too dangerous.

WEST: Exactly, and I'm the quickest way to get Claire out of there.

(Mr. Bennet looks at Sandra. They share a knowing look.)

MR. BENNET: All right. You can wait for me in the car, okay?

(West leaves. Mr. Bennet goes into his office and opens the desk drawer.)

SANDRA: (o.s.) They say girls tend to find boys just like their dads.

MR. BENNET: Because he can fly?

SANDRA: No, her real dad. You. (He picks up the gun.) All he cares about is protecting her.

(He closes the drawer and gives Sandra the gun.)

MR. BENNET: If anything happens ...

SANDRA: Nothin' is gonna happen, except you bringing Claire back.

(She puts a hand on his chest. Mr. Bennet holds her hand.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) DEVEAUX BUILDING – ROOFTOP – NIGHT (ONE WEEK AGO)]

(Hiro and Kaito return to the rooftop. It’s night. Kaito looks out at the city.)

HIRO: (subtitled) I suppose this is ... goodbye.

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) I’ve never ... time traveled before.

(He turns around and has a look of wonder on his face. He smiles at Hiro. Hiro smiles back, happy to have shared it with his dad.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: (subtitled) (voice breaking) I’m proud of you, son.

(He puts a hand on Hiro’s shoulder.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Goodbye Father. Please give my love to Mother.

(Hiro bows to his father. His father bows back.)

(Hiro closes his eyes and vanishes.)

(When Kaito looks up, Hiro is gone. He turns and looks out at the city.)

(There’s a noise behind him and approaching footsteps.)

(Kaito braces himself and turns around.)

KAITO NAKAMURA: Of all of them ... I never expected it would be you.

(Kaito takes a fighting stance as he faces the man in the hooded sweater.)

(Ando returns.)

ANDO: (smiling) (subtitled) Sir ... I have it.

(He sees the man in the hooded sweater and his smile fades quickly.)

(The man in the hooded sweater runs toward Kaito.)

ANDO: (shouts) Hey!

ANDO: Kaicho! Kaicho! (subtitled) Sir! Sir!

(The hooded man knocks Kaito off the edge of the building. Ando runs after them --

ANDO: Kaicho! (subtitled) Sir!

(Ando FREEZES.)

(Kaito and the hooded man freeze mid-fall, their bodies parallel to the ground and off the edge of the building.)

REVEAL: Hiro steps out into view and walks up to Ando.

HIRO: (subtitled) You were right, Ando. I can’t save him. But I can learn who killed him.

(Hiro walks over to his father and his killer.)

(He gasps.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Takezo Kensei. It can’t be.

(But it is.)

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. (NEW YORK) POLICE DEPARTMENT – INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]

(Matt interviews Angela Petrelli. He’s holding the photo.)

ANGELA: If you visit me one more time, Detective Parkman, I'll expect you to make an honest woman out of me.

MATT: That is the plan actually.

(Matt puts the photo down on the table. Angela pushes it aside and concentrates on Matt.)

ANGELA: (v.o., thinking) Are you going to try to read my mind again?

(Angela smiles.)

ANGELA: I knew your father when he could do it. I'm even less impressed with you.

MATT: Those marks that you have all over you, my father made you do that to yourself, didn't he? Did you know him when his mind reading became something more? When pull became push, and then he realized he could put a thought into anyone's head?

ANGELA: Don't do this.

MATT: (v.o., thinking) You are gonna answer every question I have truthfully.

MATT: For once. (sits down) Who really killed Kaito Nakamura?

(Angela can’t fight it and the words are forced out of her.)

ANGELA: It was Adam.

MATT: Adam? Monroe? Your son told me that you and your friends locked him up thirty years ago. Why?

ANGELA: He was dangerous.

MATT: Dangerous how? Like a bomb?

ANGELA: No, worse. We thought he was just able to heal. Cellular regeneration.

MATT: Like Claire, your granddaughter.

ANGELA: What we didn't know is that if your cells continually regenerate, after a while, you stop growing old.

MATT: What's old?

ANGELA: Four hundred years.

MATT: Do you know where Adam is now?

ANGELA: All I know is that he wants revenge for locking him up, and he's not gonna rest until all of us are dead.

MATT: All of you are, except for you, Bob, my dad, and this woman in the photo. (points) Who is this woman?

ANGELA: Please ... Don't do this.

MATT: I need you to tell me the truth.

ANGELA: The truth ... the truth... is that our generation mortgaged our souls to protect yours. Show a little respect for that. Get over your daddy issues and leave us be!

MATT: That's all I want. Believe me. But Adam is still out there, and this woman is on his list.

(Angela has a tight grip on the chair armrest.)

MATT: (v.o., thinking) Tell me the truth. Who is she?

(Angela fights it. Her nose begins to bleed.)

ANGELA: All she wants is to be left alone. I made her a promise. If you take this secret from me, you're not just like your father ...

(Angela touches her nose and sees the blood on her fingertips.)

ANGELA: You are him.

WHITE FLASH TO:

[EXT. (COSTA VERDE) IMPERIAL BEACH -- DAY]

(West, Mr. Bennet and Elle wait out in front of the car. Everyone is tense.)

MR. BENNET: What kind of car do you drive?

WEST: Excuse me?

MR. BENNET: I know you can fly, but you're still a teenager. You do have a car, right?

WEST: Yeah, it's a piece of crap SUV.

(Elle rolls her eyes. Guy talk.)

MR. BENNET: I drove a '52 Citroen when I was your age.

WEST: Oh, those things are awesome.

(Mr. Bennet smiles.)

(The black van arrives and stops on the other side of the road. Bob and Mohinder get out.)

(Bob helps Claire out of the van.)

MR. BENNET: Now once we get Claire, you fly her out immediately. (Elle listens intently.) No matter what else happens. You understand me?

WEST: Yes, sir.

(Bob, Mohinder and Claire are a distance in front of them.)

BOB: (shouts) It doesn't have to be this way, Noah.

(Bob cuts Claire’s hands loose. Claire walks toward her dad.)

(Mr. Bennet starts Elle toward Bob. Elle and Claire pass each other.)

(Claire hugs her dad. He kisses the top of her head. He turns and pushes Claire toward West. West grabs her.)

CLAIRE: Dad, the painting!

(He nods. West flies away with Claire.)

(Elle burns the tape around her wrists and twists them free. She turns and sends an electrical ball at West and Claire up in the sky. She hits them.)

WEST: Aah!

(West is knocked out and they fall.)

(Mr. Bennet watches them.)

MR. BENNET: Claire!

(Claire holds West above her and braces herself for impact. She hits the ground with a hard THUD.)

(Elle’s hands are charged up.)

(Pissed, Mr. Bennet turns and shoots Elle in her right upper arm.)

BOB: Elle!

(Bob runs to check on her. He kneels next to her.)

(Mr. Bennet walks toward them.)

MR. BENNET: No matter what I do ...

(Claire sits up, the bones in her back cricking. West has the breath knocked out of him, but he appears to be all right.)

MR. BENNET: (o.s.) ... we'll always be running. But if you die, Bob, the Company dies with you.

(Bennet points the gun at Bob.)

MOHINDER: Please, don't do this.

(Claire is still on the ground as her bones heal.)

(Mr. Bennet cocks the gun and aims to shoot.)

BANG!

(Mohinder fires.)

SLOW MOTION—the bullet hits Bennet in the left eye.

CLAIRE: (screams) Dad!

(Claire gets up and runs toward him. West gets up and chases after Claire.)

SLOW & NO AUDIO

(Bennet falls backward. Claire runs toward him, but West grabs her. She screams.)

(Bennet falls to the ground. Claire and West are a distance behind him. It’s the pose from Isaac’s painting.)

(Mohinder stands over Bennet’s body and looks up. West is flying away with Claire.)

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. (COSTA VERDE) BENNET RESIDENCE – LIVING ROOM -- NIGHT]

(Sandra is sleeping on the sofa when West and Claire land outside.)

CLAIRE: The last thing I really said to my dad ... was "I hate you."

WEST: You didn't mean it.

CLAIRE: No, I did. I keep playing it over and over. Now I'll never get a chance to take it back.

(He nods to her. She turns to break the news to her mom.)

WEST’S POV

(Sandra hugs Claire.)

(Claire tells her mom. Her mom sinks down to the floor and covers her face with her hands.)

CUT TO:

[EXT. (JAPAN, PRESENT) AOYAMA CEMETERY -- DAY]

(Hiro walks up to the front and takes his position behind the podium.)

HIRO: (subtitled) I refuse to eulogize my father. To eulogize him is to admit he is gone. My father is not dead ...

(Hiro removes his glasses.)

HIRO: (subtitled) Kaito Nakamura taught me right from wrong. What it means to be a hero ... So long as the lessons live on through me ... he will never die.

DISSOLVE TO:

[INT. VAN (MOVING) -- NIGHT]

(Mohinder sits in the back of the van and looks at the gun.)

HIRO: (subtitled) (v.o.) My father taught me to understand that ... certain things are in God’s hands.

(In the front, Elle is driving. Bob turns and touches Elle’s bandaged arm.)

HIRO: (subtitled) (v.o.) But for everything else ...

(She pulls away from his ministration.)

HIRO: (subtitled) (v.o.) God has given us the gift of choice.

[INT. (COSTA VERDE) BENNET RESIDENCE – KITCHEN – NIGHT]

(Sandra sits on the floor in the dark kitchen with her back to the refrigerator. Mr. Muggles goes to her --

HIRO: (subtitled) (v.o.) So long as the lessons he taught stay with me.

HIRO: (subtitled) (v.o.) And so long as he lives on in my heart.

PAN UP the man’s arm to REVEAL it’s Mr. Bennet. He’s been cleaned up. His eye repairs itself in the eye socket and the pupils clear.

MR. BENNET: Holy--
