Heroes
#120 : Dans cinq ans

"

Matt a commencé à frapper Hiro.

HIRO:
(subtitled) I look upset.

ANDO: (subtitled) Go. Talk to yourself.

HIRO:
(subtitled) No way ... I scare me. You do it.

(Ando turns and walks over to Future Hiro.)

ANDO: (subtitled) Excuse me. Future Hiro, what is this?

(We move along a blue ribbon with an article clipped to it, "Our Strength in Dark Times.")

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) This is a map of time. The events that led up to the bomb ...

(Another article is clipped to another string, "NYC DEVASTATED.")

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) ... that destroyed half the city, five years ago today. I’ve been working on it for years.

HIRO:
(subtitled) Why?

(Future Hiro doesn’t turn around. He ducks under more string.)

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) To determine ... the precise moment to go back in time ... to change the future.

(He turns and looks at a particular string.)

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) I finally found it.

(He looks at a photo of a painting of FUTURE HIRO and PETER PETRELLI in the subway. The post-it note clipped to it says OCT 4th, N.Y. SUBWAY.)

(Cut to: Two more strings with a tsuru origami and a yellow post it with "SAVE THE CHEERLEADER" written on it.)

FUTURE HIRO: (in English) Save the cheerleader ...

HIRO:
-- Save the world! You visited Peter Petrelli with this message.

FUTURE HIRO: Yes, did he do it? Did Peter save her?

HIRO:
Yes, he did.

(Future Hiro closes his eyes with satisfaction. He nods.)

FUTURE HIRO: Claire is still alive. Which means Sylar never took her power. (to Hiro) Which means you were able to kill him, right?

HIRO:
Me? Kill Sylar?

(Even Ando’s confused. Future Hiro looks grim.)

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) You didn’t?

(Hiro shakes his head.)

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) Then ... I need to get you back there. On the day the bomb explodes, you need to kill Sylar.

ANDO: (subtitled) You kill someone?

(Hiro looks at Ando and shakes his head.

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) This string here. (He follows a red ribbon.) This is you.

(He ducks under the string to find a particular one.)

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) It crosses with the black string ... Sylar ... here.

(He shows the black string connecting with Nathan’s blue string and with Hiro’s red string. Just before Nathan’s blue string connects with Sylar’s black string, the article PETRELLI WINS is clipped to it. Just after Nathan’s blue string is Hiro’s red string. Just after that is the article NYC DEVASTATED.)

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) This is the moment you kill him ... on the day after the election. I stabbed him, but he regenerated.

ANDO: Because he had the cheerleader's power.

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) Exactly. (to Hiro) But if Peter saved her ... Sylar can now be killed.

HIRO:
But I can't go back. I can't control my powers. If I try, Ando and I can appear anywhere.

(The door bursts open.)

(Officers in black and carrying guns rush into the room.)

SWAT LEADER: (shouts) Go! Go!

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) They must have spotted you. Run!

ANDO: Hiro!

(Future Hiro grabs Ando and pulls him toward the back of the studio. Future Haitian rushes forward and grabs Hiro from behind, holding him in place.)

(Future Hiro uses his scabbard and knocks the lock off the door.)

ANDO: (shouts) Hiro!

HIRO:
(subtitled) Go.

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) Come on. Let’s get out of here.

(Future Hiro grabs Ando and they exit out the back door. The officers swarm into Isaac’s loft. Future Matt Parkman walks in after them. He makes his way down the stairs and stops in front of Hiro.)

FUTURE MATT: Well, what do you know? Hiro Nakamura. (to the officers) Go after his friends! The Haitian stays with me. (quietly) I want to take him in personally.

(He grabs Hiro and pulls him out of Future Haitian’s grasp.)

HIRO:
What?

CUT TO:

[EXT. ALLEYWAY – NIGHT -- CONTINUOUS]

(Future Hiro and Ando run out into the dark alleyway.)

ANDO: Hey! What's going on?

FUTURE HIRO: Get out of those clothes. You're sticking out like a sore thumb.

ANDO: What happened to Hiro? Who was that?

FUTURE HIRO: Homeland Security.

(Ando starts taking his uniform off.)

ANDO: The government?

FUTURE HIRO: They're taking him to a special holding facility in midtown.

ANDO: How can you be so sure?

FUTURE HIRO: Because that's where they take all the terrorists.

ANDO: Why would anyone think that Hiro's a – (He stops and looks at Future Hiro.) You? A terrorist?

(Future Hiro looks away.)

FUTURE HIRO: After Sylar exploded, the world became a very dark place. (He turns back to Ando.) And that is why we need to change it. Get him back so he can kill Sylar.

(Ando takes his security guard uniform off.)

ANDO: Then let's go get Hiro. You can freeze time. We'll teleport in.

FUTURE HIRO: No, no, it's not that simple. The Haitian has a way of stopping my powers. We need help. There's only one person who's powerful enough to get us through. Peter Petrelli. We're going to Las Vegas.

(Ando watches him quietly. Future Hiro puts a hand on Ando’s shoulders. He closes his eyes and concentrates.)

(They both vanish.)

FADE IN:

[INT. (LAS VEGAS) STRIP CLUB -- NIGHT]

CAPTION:
LAS VEGAS
FIVE YEARS IN THE FUTURE

MUSIC: "Ooh La La" by Goldfrapp

(Future Hiro and Ando walk into the strip club.)

ANDO: This is where we're going to find Peter Petrelli?

FUTURE HIRO: No. This is where we find his girlfriend.

(They take a seat at a table. Future Hiro is serious. He puts his covered sword on the side and sits down. Ando is wide-eyed with anticipation.)

MAN: (on PA) And now in the center ring, gentlemen, give it up for the main event, Jessica!

(Future Niki steps out on stage. The crowd cheers. She starts her routine.)

ANDO: Maybe the future's not so bad.

(He smiles and turns to Future Hiro, who is intense and serious. Ando stops smiling, but goes back to enjoying the routine on stage.)

(During her routing, Future Niki sees Future Hiro.)

SHORT TIME CUT LATER:

(Future Niki joins Ando and Future Hiro at their table.)

FUTURE NIKI: You have one song, two minutes, and $500. After that, you're out of here. You got me, Hiro?

(Future Hiro nods. Ando takes the money out of his wallet.)

ANDO: It's me, Niki. Ando. Do you remember?

(She takes the money from him.)

FUTURE NIKI: (to Hiro) Is this how you're gonna use your time?

FUTURE HIRO: I need to find Peter. It's important.

FUTURE NIKI: War's over, General Chow. We lost, remember? Peter's not interested.

FUTURE HIRO: You could talk to him. Tell him it's about stopping Sylar.

(She turns and grabs Future Hiro by his neck.)

FUTURE NIKI: (angry) You say that name again, and I will break your neck.

(She lets him go and starts to leave.)

FUTURE HIRO: Do you know where Bennet is?

(She stops and turns to look back at Future Hiro.)

FUTURE NIKI: (shakes her head) As far as I know, he's still rustling cattle in Texas.

(Future Hiro nods. Future Niki leaves. Ando waves her bye.)

(She walks over to the bar. All the chairs are empty. She walks up to the bartender.)

FUTURE NIKI: How are the receipts tonight, Marco?

MARCO: It was a good night, ma'am.

FUTURE NIKI: Good.

(He puts two glasses on the counter in front of her. She picks up one and drinks absently. She puts her glass down. The second glass slides across the countertop just as the air ripples and Future Peter turns visible in the chair next to her.)

FUTURE NIKI: You don't have to be here. (He picks up his glass and drinks. She sits down.) I told you that I can handle it.

(This Peter is darker, harder and he has a large scar running across the center of his face from his right forehead, down through his left cheek.)

FUTURE PETER: What did he want?

FUTURE NIKI: What do you think?

(Future Hiro and Ando are headed out of the club.)

FUTURE NIKI: He's still trying to stop an exploding man.

FUTURE PETER: Hey, Sylar's dead.

FUTURE NIKI: I sent him off to Bennet. Just let him deal.

(She turns and their attention is held by the report on the television. The caption on the monitor reads: AMERICA REMEMBERS.)

(They show footage of a cluster of firemen putting out a fire and of burning wreckage.)

FUTURE PETER: Of all days, huh?

FUTURE NIKI: Today is just another day.

FUTURE PETER: You lost your son, Niki –

FUTURE NIKI: It's called letting go. Maybe you should give it a try. Or would you rather go off with your buddy and fight the pain away?

FUTURE PETER: I'm not going anywhere.

(He leans forward and they kiss. He kisses her cheek and her neck. She stands up ... and leaves.)

(On the monitor is a photo of Sylar on one half of the screen and more footage of the day on the other.)

(Future Peter stands up. He finishes his drink, then telekinetically pulls the television plug.)

(The TV switches off. Future Peter leaves.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY -- ROOM -- NIGHT]

(Hiro is confined to a chair while Future Matt questions him. Future Haitian sits in a chair nearby.)

CAPTION:
HOMELAND SECURITY
NEW YORK, NY

HIRO:
This is all misunderstanding.

FUTURE MATT: Hiro Nakamura. Born Osaka, Japan, to Kaito and Ishi.

(He puts the file folder on the table in front of Hiro.)

FUTURE MATT: Teleportation. Stopping time. Prison breaks. Attacks against US interests. No, I don't think there's any misunderstanding.

HIRO:
Prison breaks?

(Future Matt takes out the sword.)

FUTURE MATT: Two years ago, you killed a lot of good men when you raided the National Science Center in Raleigh.

HIRO:
No, I know myself. I'm not a killer.

(Matt lunges forward and pushes Hiro back. Hiro gasps. Future Matt takes a moment and reads Hiro.)

(He releases Hiro.)

FUTURE MATT: (shakes his head) How can you not remember that?

HIRO:
Because I do not know what you are talking about.

(Future Matt tosses the sword onto the table.)

FUTURE MATT: I'm talking about men like you and Sylar ruining it for the rest of us. Making us live in fear, captivity, and hiding. Making us choose sides. Tearing families apart.

HIRO:
I would never tear a family apart.
(Future Matt mind-reads Hiro.)

HIRO:
(v.o., thinking) I just want to be a hero.

FUTURE MATT: (shakes his head) I don't know what kind of game you're playing, Nakamura. What you're hiding. But I'm gonna get it out of you.

(Hiro looks worried.)

SHORT TIME CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) -- HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY – HALLWAY -- NIGHT]

(Future Matt is on the phone.)

FUTURE MATT: (to phone) That's right. We got him.

INTERCUT WITH:

[INT. WHITE HOUSE – OVAL OFFICE – EVENING]

("Future Nathan" is on the phone.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (to phone) We've been after him for years, and today he decides to get sloppy just before the anniversary?

FUTURE MATT: (from phone) I thought that'd be good news to announce at the speech tomorrow.

"FUTURE NATHAN": (to phone) This can't be a coincidence. They're up to something. I need to know what it is.

FUTURE MATT: That could be a problem. He doesn't seem to remember anything about the last five years.

"FUTURE NATHAN": You sure it's -- it's really him? It's not a trick or an illusion or something? Anything seems possible these days.

FUTURE MATT: There may be something we've overlooked.

"FUTURE NATHAN": You're a mind reader, Parkman. Rip it out of him. If you can't do it, I'll get someone who can.

(Future Matt exhales.)

FUTURE MATT: Yes, sir, Mr. President.

(He hangs up.)

("Future Nathan" puts his phone down on his desk. He presses the intercom.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": Send in the professor.

("Future Nathan" takes a moment and exhales as he waits. The door opens and Future Mohinder walks in.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": I'm sorry to keep you waiting.

(They shake hands.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": We've captured Hiro Nakamura in Manhattan.

FUTURE MOHINDER: That's excellent news, Mr. President.

"FUTURE NATHAN": It seems we're running into some problems. You're the only person I trust to figure out what's going on up there.

FUTURE MOHINDER: I'll be on the first flight to New York.

"FUTURE NATHAN": Thank you. That's not why I asked you here. Please sit down.

(Future Mohinder sits down.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": Five years ago, you and I allowed a man to blow up in New York. Millions of lives came to an end, and the world was changed. Soon after we sat down in my office. Do you remember?

FUTURE MOHINDER: Of course. We made a pact to eliminate such danger at any cost.

"FUTURE NATHAN": Billions in research later ... how close are we to that?

FUTURE MOHINDER: We, uh ... we're not much closer to reversing their condition than when we started.

"FUTURE NATHAN": What's the problem?

FUTURE MOHINDER: It's hard coded in their DNA. It's like they're a separate species. We cannot change who they are, Mr. President.

"FUTURE NATHAN": So in other words, we've failed.

FUTURE MOHINDER: No, no, the measures we've put in place --

"FUTURE NATHAN": (interrupts) They're not working. We've outlawed their breeding. We've confined their movement. We police them. We track them. Their attacks continue. Their population is increasing exponentially. Your numbers. Yesterday.

("Future Nathan" sits down at his desk and picks up a file folder.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": In Santa Cruz, a boy somehow sucked all the oxygen out of the air. Suffocated his entire middle school.

(Future Mohinder gets to his feet and walks over, shocked by the news. He looks at the report.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: My God.

"FUTURE NATHAN": These events are increasing. People are anticipating another Sylar.

(Future Mohinder looks at the President.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": In your original assessment, you posited a potential solution. Extinction.

FUTURE MOHINDER: Yes, but I never meant to suggest that--

"FUTURE NATHAN": "They wouldn't be the first species to be exterminated for the preservation of another." Your words.

FUTURE MOHINDER: I was talking about the natural order of things. What you're talking about is genocide.

"FUTURE NATHAN": Self-defense. And I'm not suggesting it lightly.

(He gets to his feet and turns toward the window, his back to Future Mohinder.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": We've just run out of options. You haven't slept in five years, Mohinder. We need to put an end to this.

FUTURE MOHINDER: You're one of them, Nathan. Am I supposed to march you off to the gas chambers as well?

"FUTURE NATHAN": I'm thankful for the secrets you've kept. But let's be honest. I can fly. I'm hardly dangerous.

(He turns and walks around the desk toward Future Mohinder.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": I value your opinion as a scientist and a friend. But if I gave you five years, ten years, twenty more years, be honest with me ... (He puts his hands on Future Mohinder’s shoulders.) -- could you reverse it?

FUTURE MOHINDER: No. Probably not.

"FUTURE NATHAN": Then we need to start thinking about Plan B.

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. (NEW YORK) -- HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY – ROOM -- NIGHT]

(Future Matt hits Hiro across his face. Twice. It’s obvious that this has been going on for a while. Hiro is bleeding from a cut in his mouth, his cheek is bruised. Future Haitian stands nearby.)

FUTURE MATT: I don't care about five years ago. What are you planning for tonight?

(Future Matt uses his powers on Hiro.)

HIRO:
You are like me. Special. Why do you want to hurt other special people?

(Future Matt’s phone rings. He answers it.)

FUTURE MATT: (to phone) Yeah, it's Parkman. (pause) Suresh? What's he doing there? (to Future Haitian, re: Hiro) Watch him.

(Future Matt takes the sword and heads out of the room.)

(We hold on Hiro.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) ISAAC MENDEZ’S LOFT -- NIGHT]

(Future Mohinder stands on the mural and looks around at the web of string stretched out across the room. He sees the photo clipping of Isaac’s various paintings on the various different colored ribbons and strings – the painting of Claire, the painting of Sylar in the lit doorway in the locker room.)

(Future Mohinder looks around the room. He ducks under the string. He sees a small image of Isaac’s painting of Mr. Bennet, a Primatech card key and the Primatech business card.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (ODESSA) PRIMATECH PAPER COMPANY – INNER ROOM -- NIGHT]

CAPTION:
PRIMATECH PAPER COMPANY
ODESSA, TEXAS

(Future Mr. Bennet sits across the table from a boy and his two parents.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: You ready? Pad turns red ... you're one of them and they'll arrest you. Pad turns blue, you're free to go.

(The boy presses his finger on the pad and the print left behind is red.)

(Future Hana Gitelman, who is assisting Future Mr. Bennet, gives Mr. Crane his papers.)

FUTURE HANA GITELMAN: From now on you will be the Cranes from Boise, Idaho. We've enclosed back stories, references, and money, okay?

MOM (MRS. CRANE): How do we know when we're safe?

FUTURE MR. BENNET: You don't. Not ever.

(He turns and takes out a vial.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Always keep a refrigerated sample of this on your person. Buy a thermos.

(He squeezes a drop from the vial onto the pad and it turns blue.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Now you're gonna have to be vigilant. Always on the lookout. Can you do that, son?

SON (CRANE): Yes, sir.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Good man.

FUTURE HANA GITELMAN: Okay, we have to go.

(She gets up. The family also gets up and they follow her out.)

(Future Mr. Bennet stops the father.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Do whatever it takes to protect him.

(Mr. Crane nods. He follows the others out of the room.)

(In the back of the room through the glass, Ando and Future Hiro watch. Future Mr. Bennet looks up and sees them.)

(Ando shakes his head and turns away. Future Hiro stares inside the room with an uncanny intensity.)

(Out in the hallway, Future Hana Gitelman leads the Cranes out.)

(Future Mr. Bennet walks back into the room and hands the paper back to Future Hiro.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: It's out of the question.

FUTURE HIRO: It's Homeland Security. I need help getting in there.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: These people trust me. They come to me to keep them hidden. You're asking me to do the exact opposite!

FUTURE HIRO: I'm only asking for the ones that I brought to you. DL, Candice, Molly Walker. And they'll all be safe when we succeed.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Sorry, I can't help you.

(Ando stands up.)

ANDO: He saved your daughter's life.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Excuse me?

ANDO: Your daughter. The cheerleader. She's alive because of Hiro.

(Future Hiro nods.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: What is he talking about?

FUTURE HIRO: Five years ago, I asked Peter to save Claire from Sylar at Homecoming. My friend tells me he did it. Claire's alive. Isn't she?

(He takes the list of names from Future Hiro.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: You guys sit tight. I'll see what I can do.

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) ISAAC MENDEZ’S LOFT -- NIGHT]

(Future Mohinder explains the web of strings to Future Matt.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Each string represents a person. Every action, every choice. How people came together, how they were torn apart. It's a living map of the past.

FUTURE MATT: Why would a terrorist care so much about the past?

(Future Mohinder moves some strings.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Maybe he thought he could change it. Hiro Nakamura can stop time. Teleport by folding space. Theoretically, he can fold time as well.

(Future Mohinder ducks under the string and heads over to the table where the last issue of 9th Wonders! is.)

FUTURE MATT: So you're saying he's a time traveler.

(He picks it up and looks at it.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Is that any stranger than being able to read someone's mind?

FUTURE MATT: (nods) Yeah, it is.

FUTURE MOHINDER: Haven't you ever wished you could change the past? Set your life down a different path?

FUTURE MATT: I used to be that guy. Wishing it and making it happen are two different things.

FUTURE MOHINDER: Not for Nakamura it isn't. Look here.

(Future Mohinder ducks under the string and concentrates on a particular cluster in the center.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: These two dates seem to be the focal points--both in the past. The first is the bomb. The other --

(He stops when he sees the painting picture of him with Peter Petrelli. The post-it note has a date: OCT 4, N.Y. SUBWAY.)

FUTURE MATT: What? What is it?

FUTURE MOHINDER: The other's the day I received my father's ashes. I was with Peter Petrelli that day. On the subway, he said he saw a man who could freeze time.

FUTURE MATT: Nakamura?

FUTURE MOHINDER: I don't know. He said he had a message for Peter.

FUTURE MATT: What? What was the message?

(Future Mohinder ducks under the string and looks around for something specific. He doesn’t answer.)

(Future Mohinder ducks under the string and hurries up the stairs toward the door.)

FUTURE MATT: (shouts) Hey! What was the message?

FUTURE MOHINDER: Save the cheerleader ... save the world.

(He nods to the mural on the floor of New York exploding. Future Matt looks down and sees the painting.)

WHITE FLASH TO:

[INT. (MIDLAND) BURNT TOAST DINER -- DAY]

(Future Claire Bennet serves up the customer’s orders.) )

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): All right, here are your chilequiles and your waffle platter. Now just holler at me if y'all need anything else. Okay?

CAPTION:
CLAIRE BENNET
MIDLAND, TEXAS

(Future Claire walks around the counter and sits on the stool to watch the television report.)

NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) Right now we're watching live footage of the President approaching Marine 1 for his trip to his home state, New York.

(The caption on the footage reads: LIVE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE.)

NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) The White House promises a major policy shift ...

(Andy walks up to her.)

ANDY: You know, Sandra, for a girl who's supposed to hate the President, you sure do perk up whenever he's on.

(He chuckles and leans on the counter facing her.)

ANDY: A guy could get jealous.

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): He's old enough to be my father.

ANDY: Hey, so what did you think of Rafferty's? (At her blank look, he clarifies.) For the reception. You were supposed to check it out, remember?

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): I'm sorry. I forgot.

(He walks around the counter and sits next to her.)

ANDY: You're not getting cold feet, are you?

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): No, of course not. My feet are very warm. Two pairs of socks warm.

ANDY: Well, good. 'Cause I'm kind of crazy about you.

(They kiss.)

ANDY: You know that. (He glances to the side.) The creepy guy with glasses is back. Sitting in your section again.

(She turns and sees Future Mr. Bennet sitting at the table reading the paper. Andy gives her a kiss and gets up. He heads back to the kitchens. Future Claire waits a beat, then heads over.)

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): There we go.

(She puts a piece of pie and glass of milk on the table.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Thanks.

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): Would you like a scoop of ice cream on that?

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Um, no, not today, thank you. But my table's a little sticky.

(She takes out a cloth and wipes the table.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Someone knows about you, Claire. You need to leave as soon as possible. There's a bag on the chair to my right.

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): Leave? What am I supposed to tell Andy?

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Tell him nothing. Just go.

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): I can't do that to him. We're getting married.

(He turns and looks at her.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Have you told him?

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): No. All I want is a normal life, Dad.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: I've done my best to provide that for you. But people are starting to ask questions. Now I am trying to control the information, but it's not safe here anymore.

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): I've been hiding for five years. California, Nevada.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: I brought you back to Midland.

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): Only after Mom left.

(They look at each other.)

NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) This word just coming in. We have breaking news ...

FUTURE MR. BENNET: I just want you to be safe.

NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) ... where enforcement agents have just bravely rounded up over two hundred undocumented individuals as part of a coordinated nationwide sweep.

(On the television, various flashes of different ordinary looking people – adults and children -- being handcuffed and put into police cars.)

NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) This has been cited as the department's most successful operation since the Linderman Act was passed four years ago. Homeland Security spokesmen praised the near-perfect execution of local police, citing zero casualties on the enforcement side ...

FUTURE CLAIRE (AKA SANDRA): Enjoy your pie.

(He indicates the paper package on the chair. Future Claire reluctantly takes the package with her as she heads back to the counter.)

NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) Officials were also sure to note that community tips ... The incident resulted in the safe transport of suspects to special holding facilities within their states, where the individuals will meet with federally provided attorneys to discuss their legal options. And a note to our viewers. If you see any suspicious activity, please ...

(Future Claire puts the package down on the counter stool and looks at the news report on the television set.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (ODESSA) PRIMATECH PAPER COMPANY – INNER ROOM]

(The same news report is on the television set. Future Hiro paces as Ando stares at a vial of blood.)

FUTURE HIRO: DL can phase inside the buildings. Candice's illusion can distract the guards.

ANDO: Hey, what about me?

FUTURE HIRO: You'll help too.

(He stands up.)

ANDO: That's not what I meant. What happened to me? Where am I? Am I rich? Married?

FUTURE HIRO: I can't tell you that.

ANDO: Why not?

FUTURE HIRO: Because ... (subtitled) The whole time/space continuum ... might implode because you were impatient.

(Future Hiro smiles and sits down. So there. Ando chuckles.)

ANDO: So ... my friend is still in there.

(He looks at Ando for a moment and turns very serious.)

FUTURE HIRO: There's something I need to tell you.

(He stands up –

-- and is hit in the chest by a stun gun electrode. Electricity crackles as it zaps him in the chest. He screams as he goes down.)

(Future Matt puts the stun gun down. The room is surrounded and filled with officers. One officer pulls Ando away as Future Matt walks up to and looks at Future Hiro.)

(He’s surprised and perplexed that it’s Hiro. Again.)

FUTURE MATT: We already caught you. Two Hiros. Son of a bitch! He really can travel through time.

(Peter turns visible as he rushes into the room. He holds his hand up and telekinetically pushes the guard near the door away. The officer smashes into the desk.)

OFFICER: Unh!

(Future Matt reaches into his jacket pocket to get his gun. Future Peter stops and concentrates a moment as he freezes the entire room.)

TIME STOPS

(He walks over to the desk and picks up Future Hiro’s sword.)

(He walks directly in front of Future Matt and looks at him. He puts a hand on Future Hiro and touches Ando –

-- and the three of them vanish from the room.)

TIME RESUMES

(Guns go up and point toward the door only to find Future Peter gone. Future Matt looks around. Future Hiro and Ando are gone as well.)

(He glares at the officer nearby with frustration.)

FUTURE MATT: What?!

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. (ODESSA) PRIMATECH PAPER COMPANY – INNER ROOM -- NIGHT]

(Future Mr. Bennet walks into the room and finds it a mess. Future Matt walks in with some officers.)

FUTURE MATT: Your friends got away.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: If they were my friends, I wouldn't have called you, Matt.

FUTURE MATT: Yeah, thanks for the heads up.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: That's the deal, right? I turn you on to the dangerous refugees, and you let me help the harmless ones.

FUTURE MATT: Doesn't hurt that we're both harboring children of interest. Of course, mine isn't the President's daughter.

FUTURE MR. BENNET: She's getting married.

FUTURE MATT: Mazel-Tov. I guess. Have you, uh ... you heard anything from Janice?

(Future Mr. Bennet walks over to the desk and takes out a folded piece of paper. Future Matt opens it and sees a child’s drawing of MOMMY AND ME. It’s signed, MATTHEW.)

FUTURE MATT: You ever wish you did something different? Wish you took a different path?

FUTURE MR. BENNET: Every day. You did right by her, Matt. You did right by him.

FUTURE MATT: Thanks. I really appreciate all you've done for them.

(Future Mr. Bennet nods. He turns and looks around the room and stops. He finds Future Hana Gitelman dead on the floor behind the desk from a bullet in her head.)

(Future Matt grabs him and pushes him back against the desk.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: What are you doing?!

(The officers hold him down while he takes out and cocks his gun.)

FUTURE MATT: I'm ending our arrangement. Unfortunately, I have to explain to the President that there's a second Hiro Nakamura out there. Then I gotta tell him how I let him get away. See, I can't come back empty handed. Now tell me where she is.

(He tries to hide it from Future Matt, but then, Future Matt smiles.)

FUTURE MR. BENNET: No.

(Future Matt fires.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (MIDLAND) BURNT TOAST DINER -- DAY]

(Future Claire stands behind the counter looking at the large roll of cash and new ID cards. She puts the cash back in the bag and looks at her new ID. She puts that in the bag and closes it. She puts the bag under the counter, turns and goes to find Andy.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: Let's elope.

ANDY: What?

FUTURE CLAIRE: Let's elope. Right now, run away. I'm thinking Vegas. We'll pack our bags. Get hitched tonight. Take off, see the world. What do you think?

(He chuckles.)

ANDY: I think you're crazy.

FUTURE CLAIRE: Maybe.

(He levels her a look.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: Probably.

ANDY: Hmm.

FUTURE CLAIRE: But I've got my reasons. And I promise I'll tell you everything.

(He sees she’s serious about this.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: Will you do it? For me?

ANDY: I'll do anything for you. (He kisses her.) Let me get my things.

FUTURE CLAIRE: Okay.

(He goes into the back. Future Claire smiles, grabs the coffee carafe and checks the customers at the counter for refills.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: Coffee? Coffee?

(She fills up someone’s cup. She goes to the next customer who sits with the menu held up to hide his face.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: (smiling) Can I get something for you, sir?

(Future Matt puts the menu down.)

FUTURE MATT: I don't know, Claire. What's good?

(Her smile fades.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) -- HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY – ROOM -- NIGHT]

(Future Mohinder talks with Hiro.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Save the cheerleader, save the world. What does that mean?

HIRO:
How do you know that?

FUTURE MOHINDER: Five years ago, Peter Petrelli and I were on the subway. He said someone stopped time. That's what you do, Mr. Nakamura. Peter and I were on our way to see Isaac Mendez that day. An artist who can paint the future.

(Future Mohinder picks up the final comic book and looks through it.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: A lot of his work is remarkably accurate. Except this.

(He puts the comic book down on the table. Hiro perks up.)

HIRO:
Is that a new 9th Wonder?

(Future Mohinder has the comic book open to a particular page – where someone who looks like Hiro cuts someone who looks like Sylar with a sword.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: The events in this comic. History didn't happen like this. You didn't kill Sylar. You're trying to change the past. Trying to stop Sylar, is that it?

HIRO:
If you could save millions of lives, wouldn't you?

CUT TO:

[INT. (LAS VEGAS) STRIP CLUB -- DAY]

(Future Hiro is still out cold. Ando sits next to him. He gets to his feet when Future Peter returns with a blanket.)

ANDO: Thank you.

FUTURE PETER: Is that really you, Ando?

ANDO: Why are you so surprised to see me?

FUTURE PETER: He didn't tell you.

ANDO: What?

FUTURE PETER: You're ... dead.

ANDO: How?

FUTURE PETER: In New York. The bomb.

ANDO: Really?

(Future Peter sits down.)

FUTURE PETER: Do you remember how he used to be? All full of hope and optimism?

ANDO: Of course. That's the Hiro I know.

(Ando opens the blanket and puts it over Future Hiro.)

FUTURE PETER: He went away the day you died. Between you and me, I think you're the reason why he became so obsessed with trying to change it all back. He wants to save you.

(Ando is quiet as he looks at Future Hiro.)

(Off screen, a door opens.)

FUTURE NIKI: (o.s.) Hey, baby, you in here?

(Future Peter turns just as Future Niki walks in. She stops when she sees them. She turns and leaves. Future Peter gets up.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) ISAAC’S LOFT – DAY]

(Future Mohinder explains the web of string to "Future Nathan".)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Nakamura was trying to find a way to kill Sylar before he exploded.

"FUTURE NATHAN": You actually think he can make that happen?

FUTURE MOHINDER: I do. Think about it. Without Sylar, the world would have never considered these people to be dangerous. None of this would've ever happened. Imagine the possibilities. If he kills Sylar, we can change the past.

(Future Mohinder takes the black Sylar ribbon down and the entire web of strings falls.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": I don't have that luxury. I need to find answers in the here and now.

FUTURE MOHINDER: Genocide is not an answer.

"FUTURE NATHAN": Is that what this is about? You're feeling bad because you came up short?

FUTURE MOHINDER: It's wrong.

"FUTURE NATHAN": I was elected to make hard decisions. I understand how things work.

FUTURE MOHINDER: And how is this going to work?

"FUTURE NATHAN": Today I'm going to announce that you've developed a treatment to reverse this.

FUTURE MOHINDER: You're going to lie.

"FUTURE NATHAN": The world will cheer.

FUTURE MOHINDER: And what happens when people start dying?

"FUTURE NATHAN": I'll say you made a mistake. A fatal error. At first, the world will mourn. They'll be united in grief. And then they'll just be united. Mohinder, I need to know if I can trust you. I need to know if you're with me. Are you with me on this?

(pause)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Of course.

(The door opens and Future Matt walks in.)

FUTURE MATT: Mr. President. There are two of them, sir. Two ... Hiros.

"FUTURE NATHAN": You're sure?

FUTURE MATT: I am. I think we got the younger one. It explains the gaps in his knowledge. I want to put him down.

"FUTURE NATHAN": No.

(Future Mohinder turns and looks at "Future Nathan".)

"FUTURE NATHAN": I want Dr. Suresh to do it.

FUTURE MOHINDER: Yes, sir.

FUTURE MATT: Mr. President ... that's not the only thing that I found in Texas.

CUT TO:

[INT. (NEW YORK) PETRELLI MANSION –LIVING ROOM -- DAY]

CAPTION:
PETRELLI MANSION
MANHATTAN

(Future Claire stands in front of the fireplace looking at the family photos on the mantle. "Future Nathan" walks in.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": I thought you were dead.

(She turns around.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": You have no idea how important you are to me, Claire.

FUTURE CLAIRE: I'm not important. I'm just a waitress.

"FUTURE NATHAN": We both know that isn't true.

(He walks up to her and hugs her.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: You made everyone afraid of us.

"FUTURE NATHAN": I made everyone aware of us. Fear is just the natural response. You can't blame them, really. We're more powerful than they are. More important. We're special.

FUTURE CLAIRE: Who are you to decide who's special and who's not?

(She walks past him on her way to the door. He grabs her arm.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": I'm the leader of the free world.

(Future Claire looks at him.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": For all I know, I'm the most special person there is. (Something about him makes Claire afraid.) Lord knows I found enough power. Met a lot of special people. Like this girl named Candice who allowed me to become President. But I'm done. I just want to eliminate the competition. I don't need any more power--especially not after you.

(Claire turns and heads for the door. "Future Nathan" lifts his hands and suddenly, she stops. She can’t move.)

(He raises his hand and points his finger at her head. He motions, slicing off the top of her head – blood drips down her face and Future Claire suddenly realizes who he really is.)

FUTURE CLAIRE: (whispers) Sylar.

("Future Nathan" warps/disillusions into Future Sylar.)

FUTURE SYLAR: I've waited a long time for this.

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. (LAS VEGAS) STRIP CLUB -- DAY]

(Ando studies Future Hiro’s sword, lightly fingering the symbol pattern in the hilt.)

(Future Hiro wakes up. He clutches his chest where he was stunned as he sits up. He realizes where he is.)

(Ando opens the sword, but doesn’t take it out of its scabbard.)

ANDO: You've always wanted to become a kendo master.

FUTURE HIRO: I studied in Tohoku, so technically I'm a Battojutsu master.

(Ando closes the sword.)

ANDO: (exasperated) (subtitled) Why do you always have to correct me?

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) Because there’s a difference.

ANDO: (subtitled) What difference? You’re still a hero. You became everything you wanted to be and I ... I became dead.

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) Peter told you?

(Ando studies the sword.)

ANDO: (subtitled) Looks like you fought a lot of battles.

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) More than I’d like to remember.

ANDO: (subtitled) How was it?

FUTURE HIRO: (subtitled) Not nearly as fun ... without you.

(Ando and Future Hiro share a look.)

[INT. (LAS VEGAS) STRIP CLUB – BACK OFFICE -- DAY]

(Future Niki sits in her office. She talks with Future Peter.)

FUTURE NIKI: Remember what we promised each other?

FUTURE PETER: Yeah, I remember.

FUTURE NIKI: Then why can't you just let it go?

FUTURE PETER: Hey, I'm not the one who can't let go. You gonna call yourself Jessica on stage night after night and act like nothing gets to you? We both know that's not true. That is not who you are.

(She looks at her reflection in the make-up mirror.)

FUTURE NIKI: It is now.

(Future Peter moves closer to her.)

FUTURE PETER: You're gonna look in that mirror, but nobody is looking back but you. She is gone, Niki. DL is gone. Micah is gone. You have to accept your loss.

FUTURE NIKI: (crying) Jessica was right all along. Look out for yourself. Don't get attached.

FUTURE PETER: I don't buy it.

FUTURE NIKI: Then why are you in such a hurry to leave me?

FUTURE PETER: My own reasons and I'm not leaving anything. I'll be back.

(She stands up.)

FUTURE NIKI: What reasons? What makes you think that you are so important that you have to fix everything?

(He stands up.)

FUTURE PETER: Because I do.

FUTURE NIKI: Why? Why does it fall on your shoulders to save everyone?

FUTURE PETER: (shouts) Because it was me! The bomb? It was me! I killed all those people. I killed Micah.

FUTURE NIKI: No, it was Sylar. Everyone knows!

FUTURE PETER: It wasn't. Nathan lied. He lied to protect me. He told everybody that it was Sylar. Think about it. You know me. You know what I can do. Listen, if there is a chance that Hiro can undo this, I have to help him.

(Future Peter heads for the door and grabs his jacket off the coat rack.)

FUTURE NIKI: You walk out that door, you don't come back.

(He pauses a moment, then leaves.)

[INT. (LAS VEGAS) STRIP CLUB -- CONTINUOUS]

(Future Peter returns to the room where Ando and Future Hiro are. Future Hiro gets to his feet.

ANDO: Is everything okay?

(Future Peter walks right past him.)

FUTURE PETER: (determined) No. Let's go fix it.

(Ando get to his feet as Future Hiro heads out.)

CUT TO:

[EXT. (NEW YORK) MEMORIAL SITE – DAY]

(A marble slab with all the names of the victims etched on it is the base of the memorial fountain in the heart of the crater. A stage has been set up for the anniversary program. A large American flag hangs in the backdrop against the crater wall. "Future Nathan" addresses the attendees.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": My fellow Americans, fellow New Yorkers. Please let us take a moment to remember the men, women, and children who were taken from us five years ago. Five bells for the five years of sorrow.

(Everyone pauses and the bell tolls.)

INTERCUT WITH:

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY – ROOM -- DAY]

(Hiro sits at the table staring at the 9th Wonders! comic book. Future Haitian stands in the background watching him.)

(The bell sounds.)

(Hiro looks up.)

(On the other side of the room, Future Mohinder opens his case under the watchful eyes of Future Matt.)

(The bell tolls continue.)

(Future Mohinder takes a syringe out.)

CUT TO:

[INT. (LAS VEGAS) STRIP CLUB -- DAY]

(Future Niki sits alone and waits. She picks up the glass and hurls it at the television set. It smashes against the monitor.)

(The bell sounds.)

[EXT. (NEW YORK) MEMORIAL SITE – DAY]

"FUTURE NATHAN": Sacrifice ... is something that we're all too familiar with. We've all lost.

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – LOBBY -- DAY]

(The speech airs on the television set at a security guard desk.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) We've all mourned. And we've all had to become soldiers, ...

(Future Hiro stands in front of the security desk. Future Peter and Ando are right behind him.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) ... heroes.

(The three security guards see them there. They back away and hit the alarm.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) ... Protecting one another --

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY – ROOM -- DAY]

(The alarm sounds.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) -- from the gravest of dangers.

(Future Mohinder stops and looks up. Future Matt rises to his feet.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) This is a battle that none of us wanted.

(We hold on Hiro.)

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – LOBBY -- DAY]

(Armed SWAT run down the stairs.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) One that we entered with a heavy heart.

(More armed SWAT appear over the second floor balcony, their guns aimed at the three men standing back-to-back in the lobby.)

FUTURE HIRO: (to Future Peter) Should we freeze time?

FUTURE PETER: No, I haven't had a good fight in years.

(More SWAT appear behind the security desk and in the hallway beyond.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) Knowing that the enemy was ourselves.

(Suddenly, Future Hiro and Future Peter both move with experience and precision. Future Hiro draws his sword and runs off in one direction while Future Peter runs off in another direction – a silent agreement between two men who have done this before.)

(As they hurry off, Ando is left standing alone.)

[EXT. MEMORIAL SITE]

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) We've won battles --

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – LOBBY -- DAY]

(Future Hiro stands on the DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY floor seal. He efficiently cuts through the security officers running toward him, leaving dead bodies on the floor around him.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) -- the world over. Not only against those that would do us harm, --

(Future Hiro finishes and continues.)

(On the other side of the room, Hiro moves around the lobby --

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) -- but against poverty, reclaiming the environment ...

-- and sees an officer fly through the air and hit the floor with a thud.)

(Future Peter steps out of the elevators after the officer he just threw out. He turns around and sees Future Hiro and Ando joining him.)

FUTURE HIRO: Upstairs our powers will be blocked by the Haitian.

FUTURE PETER: We need to take him out so the other Hiro can teleport out of here.

ANDO: But there are guards up there. Won't they be waiting for us with guns?

[EXT. MEMORIAL SITE]

("Future Nathan" continues his speech.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": But we do not forget the price that we've had to pay.

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – UPSTAIRS OUTSIDE ELEVATOR -- DAY]

(Future Matt stands behind a line of officers kneeling in front of the closed elevator doors.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) The laws that we've had to pass to keep our citizens safe.

FUTURE MATT: (to the officers) Put 'em all down. No warning.

(Future Matt holds his gun aimed at the closed elevator doors.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) To preserve our way of life.

[EXT. MEMORIAL SITE]

(The speech continues to a captivated audience.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": Our hope has always been that a great peace is on the horizon, that one day wounds would be healed and salvation could be found.

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- HOLDING FACILITY – ROOM -- DAY]

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) I'm here to tell you that that day is today. I'm proud to announce that we have developed a treatment, a method to reverse the genetic code.

(Future Haitian walks up to Hiro. Hiro turns and sees Future Mohinder filling a syringe.)

[EXT. MEMORIAL SITE]

(The audience applauds.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": The first clinics will open next month across the world. And soon, --

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- ROOM -- DAY]

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) -- we can begin lifting restrictions.

(Hiro can only guess what’s about to happen.)

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – LOBBY -- DAY]

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) Cities and families can be reunited. And we can finally live without fear.

(Without discussion, Future Hiro steps into the elevator. He turns and presses the button with the handle of his sword. He stands in the center of the elevator, his sword pointed downward with both hands.)

(The elevator doors close.)

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – UPSTAIRS OUTSIDE ELEVATOR -- DAY]

(Future Matt waits for the elevator doors to open.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) We've been vigilant. We have been uncompromising.

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- ROOM -- DAY]

(Future Haitian leads Future Mohinder back into the cage where Hiro sits.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) -- and our efforts have paid off.

(Future Mohinder stops in the doorway with the filled syringe in his hand.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) The nightmare is over.

(He looks at Hiro. Hiro looks at the syringe.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (v.o.) The world is saved.

(We hold on Hiro.)

FADE OUT.

(COMMERCIAL SET)

FADE IN:

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY – UPSTAIRS OUTSIDE ELEVATOR -- DAY]

(Future Matt stands behind a line of officers kneeling in front of the closed elevator doors. They wait for the doors to open.)

SWAT OFFICER: Why are we waiting, sir? Why can't we just bring the fight to them?

FUTURE MATT: Because we'd lose. The Haitian's up here, so up here, they're powerless.

(The elevator bell dings.)

FUTURE MATT: Weapons free. Shoot on sight.

(The elevator doors open. It’s empty.)

(Future Matt steps into the elevator to check it out. There’s no one there. He hits the elevator wall with frustration.)

[INT. (NEW YORK) HOMELAND SECURITY -- ROOM -- DAY]

HIRO:
(to Future Mohinder) I must go back to stop explosion. You know I'm telling truth.

(Future Haitian holds Hiro down.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: Hold him down.

HIRO:
Please don't do this!

(Hiro whimpers and shakes with fright. Future Mohinder looks at Hiro. He looks down at his syringe and over at the Haitian.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: I'm sorry.

(Hiro closes his eyes tight and waits for it.)

(Future Mohinder stabs the syringe into Future Haitian’s neck. Future Haitian gasps and collapses on the table.)

(Future Mohinder works on releasing Hiro’s binds. Hiro stares at Future Haitian.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: (urgently) Come on. Come on, come on!

(Future Mohinder grabs Hiro and pulls him up. Together, they rush out of the room.)

HIRO:
You're letting me go. Why?

FUTURE MOHINDER: I think I'm supposed to.

(Future Mohinder grabs the comic book and hands it to Hiro as he leads him out of the room.)

(Hiro looks at the comic book and sees the panel with Mohinder with the syringe and the Haitian holding Hiro. In the following panel, the syringe is plunged into someone’s neck. The third panel shows it’s the Haitian.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: I'll take you where it's safe. So you can change all this.

(Future Mohinder opens the door.)

(Future Hiro has his sword out and rushes toward Future Mohinder, pushing him up against the wall with the blade against his neck.)

HIRO:
No, future me! He's good guy!

(Future Hiro smiles at Hiro. He turns and sees Future Haitian dead on the table.)

(In the hallway outside, Future Peter is walking quickly. A guard intercepts him. Peter turns smoothly and slams him into the wall. He joins the others.)

(Future Peter nods at Future Mohinder.)

FUTURE PETER: Mohinder.

FUTURE MOHINDER: (surprised) Peter?

(Behind them, Ando runs over the bodies left in the hallway as he joins them as well.)

ANDO: Hiro!

HIRO:
Ando-kun!

(He runs over to Hiro and they hug. Hiro laughs.)

HIRO:
Yokatta! (something in Japanese)

FUTURE HIRO: You need to go back now.

HIRO:
But how do I return to the right moment? I don't know how to do that.

FUTURE HIRO: I'll take you.

(Future Hiro walks toward Hiro, his arm outstretched.)

BANG!

(Future Hiro is shot. Future Matt is behind them in the hallway with the gun in his hand.)

(Future Hiro falls to the floor. Future Peter turns around, sees Future Matt and telekinetically shuts the door before he can enter the room.)

FADE TO WHITE:

FADE IN FROM WHITE:

[EXT. MEMORIAL SITE]

(The eternal flame in the water memorial is lit.)

(TOP VIEW DOWN: The service continues as everyone is on their feet and gathered around the memorial of names.)

INTERCUT WITH:

[INT. HOMELAND SECURITY – HALLWAY OUTSIDE ROOM -- DAY]

(Officers drag the bodies out of the hallway. Future Matt turns and shouts to them. He has his phone to his ear.)

FUTURE MATT: Come on, come on, come on, move it!

(A couple of officers carrying a battering ram run forward.)

FUTURE MATT: (shouts) Move it!

INTERCUT WITH:

[EXT. MEMORIAL SITE]

(TOP VIEW DOWN: The service continues as everyone is on their feet and gathered around the memorial of names.)

("Future Nathan’s" cell phone rings. An aide hands him his phone.)

AIDE: Sir.

("Future Nathan" answers the phone.)

FUTURE MATT: (to phone) The Haitian's down! The Haitian is down!

(The SWAT push past Future Matt and start ramming the door.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (to phone) What about Nakamura?

FUTURE MATT: We can't get to him, sir. Your brother is holding us off. If I don't get reinforcements now, it's all over, sir. Nakamura will escape. Mr. President? Mr. Pres--

("Future Nathan" hangs up.)

(In front of everyone, he flies off straight up into the air, then off to the side.)

(The crowd screams and gasps with surprise.)

CUT TO:

[INT. HOMELAND SECURITY -- ROOM -- DAY]

(In the background, the officers outside continue to ram the door. We hear the voices outside.)

(Future Hiro takes a folded comic book page out from his jacket. It’s stained with his blood. He gives it to Ando --

-- and he dies.)

FUTURE MATT: (through door) Come on! Open the door!

(Hiro stares at his future dead self. He seems frozen with shock.)

HIRO:
(subtitled) I’m dead.

ANDO: (subtitled) (firmly) We need to get out of here.

(But Hiro can’t seem to take his eyes off his future self.)

HIRO:
(subtitled) (upset) I’m dead.

ANDO: (shouts) HIRO!

(Peter is keeping the door closed. An arm phases through the door, grabs Peter and pulls him out of the room. The door ripples and Peter is gone.)

INTERCUT WITH:

[INT. HOMELAND SECURITY -- HALLWAY -- CONTINUOUS]

(Peter slides on the floor as he’s flung out and away from the room. He looks up as "Future Nathan" turns to Future Matt.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": (points to room) Get in there Parkman. End this.

FUTURE MATT: (nods) Sir.

("Future Nathan" turns around to face Future Peter.)

FUTURE MATT: (o.s.) Move it!

(Future Matt takes his gun out. Future Peter gets to his feet.)

("Future Nathan advances toward Future Peter.)

"FUTURE NATHAN": Brother versus brother. It's almost biblical.

FUTURE PETER: My brother can't walk through walls. Who are you?

("Future Nathan" disillusions back into Future Sylar.)

FUTURE SYLAR: An old friend.

(Future Peter’s eyes widen with shock.)

FUTURE SYLAR: The guy they blame for blowing up New York, but you and I know the real story, don't we, Pete?

FUTURE MATT: (b.g.) Come on, do it!

(Inside the room, Future Mohinder picks up Future Hiro’s sword. He slides it shut and gives it to Hiro.)

FUTURE MOHINDER: You must leave. Now!

(Out in the hallway, Future Peter faces Future Sylar.)

FUTURE PETER: You're gonna pay for what you did to Nathan. What you did in his name.

FUTURE SYLAR: What I did?

(He opens his hand and his hand is bursting with cold blue light of icy power and energy.)

FUTURE SYLAR: When I killed Nathan, he had already turned against his own kind.

FUTURE PETER: Liar.

(Future Peter holds out his hands which in turn burst with red, hot fiery power and energy.)

(The two men advance toward each other.)

(In the room, Future Mohinder is single-handedly keeping the door closed. Ando gets up and walks toward Hiro.)

ANDO: (subtitled) We must teleport back to our own time!

HIRO:
(subtitled) (listless) I can’t.

ANDO: Hiro! (subtitled) I believe in you ... I’ve seen the man that you become. (firmly) You can do this.

(The hits against the door become harder and stronger. Future Mohinder has difficulty keeping the door shut. Through the cracks, we see light and power filtering through from whatever conflict is going on on the other side.)

(Future Mohinder puts all his strength to keeping that door shut long enough for Hiro and Ando to teleport out.)

(Hiro holds his sword.)

(The door to the room is off its hinges. Future Mohinder is keeping it up by his sheer strength. The alternating red and blue light coming from the hallway is blinding.)

(Hiro closes his eyes and concentrates.)

FADE TO WHITE:

FADE IN FROM WHITE:

[EXT. (NEW YORK) DEVEAUX BUILDING – ROOFTOP – DAY (PRESENT)]

(Hiro opens his eyes. He takes a deep breath and smiles.)

(He and Ando walk to the rooftop wall to look out at the gorgeous city in front of them. Hiro puts his sword back on. He laughs as they drink in the sight.)

(Hiro takes the 9th Wonders! comic book out. Ando turns and is surprised to see it.)

(Hiro studies the panel of him killing Sylar.)

(He looks out in front of him.)

HIRO:
(subtitled) Now the hard part ...

(He pushes his glass up with his finger and we hold on Hiro.)

FADE TO BLACK.
